What Smart Homeowners Consider When Designing a Walk-In Shower

A walk-in shower that’s separate to a bath can be really convenient, and creative too. Every element can be tailored to create the exact shower you want.
Faucets
You can choose just a simple shower head, a rain shower head or additional extras like spray jets and hand showers. Water efficiency options are also available that help the environment without compromising on your shower.
Shower bases
Acrylic is super affordable and comes in a range of shapes, whether you want curved, angular or square. Fiberglass has a solid feel but is more prone to discoloration. Cultured stone (limestone, granite or marble) is more expensive but looks great.
It also has a protective gel coat usually. Tiles allow you to be really creative, but they can be fussy and time consuming, requiring grout maintenance and a waterproof shower pan or liner underneath.
Shower walls and doors
There’s a range of different finishes and glass styles you can choose. Frameless looks clean and modern. Glass blocks are trendy, but don’t really work if you need a door.
A sliding door is a great alternative if you don’t have room for a swinging door. In terms of the finish, textured is a cool version of the traditional frosted look.
ADA compliant
There’s a large number of companies in the US that can make sure your shower is suitable for those with disabilities or limited mobility.
This can be done through the addition of a built-in chair, wrap-around safety bars, or textured flooring on the base to help prevent falls. If the shower needs to be wheelchair accessible, a ramp can also be added. If you need a shower like this, make sure the company you choose is ADA-compliant so all the parts and construction is up to scratch.
