Stop Wasting Money On An Old Water Heater With These Pro Efficiency Tips

Water heaters come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and capacities, for all homes and businesses. We don’t really think about water heaters until the day when they break down – and then of course, you need a solution fast. Below is some guidance on water heaters and what to consider before you buy.
Do I need a new water heater?
Sometimes a heater can be repaired rather than entirely replaced, which is a cheaper and less time-consuming task. If the heater is still under warranty then replacing only the faulty parts is a good idea. However if the heater is leaking, or is past the warranty, then you should just replace it altogether. Also, heaters have become a lot more efficient in the last 10 years, so if your heater is older than that, you might actually save money through buying a new one.
Before you buy
Make sure you know all the details of your boiler. That includes:
- Capacity (in gallons)
- Wattage and voltage
- Gas units – the fuel used (propane or natural gas) and the exhaust vent diameter
- Height and width of the heater
If your old heater isn’t producing enough hot water, for example when running a bath or shower, then you’ll need to seek advice on what capacity of new heater you should buy. There are guides online to help you figure out the right dimensions, so you don’t buy the wrong one. Self cleaning heaters are also a good idea if you live in a hard water area.
