Stop Overpaying For Your Internet Service Provider With These Savings Tips

If you have or need an internet connection, then you’ll need to find an internet service provider or ISP. This will vary according to where you live - if you’re in a big city then the chances are that you’ll have a choice of providers, and can pick and choose the best deal for you. If you live in a quieter, rural or remote area, then your choice may be more limited.

Technologies

Nowadays many of us are on a broadband internet connection – this uses our phone wires without taking up the entire bandwidth, so you can still make and receive phone calls. Broadband is available at different speeds, and it’s a case of you get what you pay for. Basic speeds could start at 2 Mbps, going upto 50 Mbps for the best connection. You may be able to get fiber optic internet in your area – if you do, you can expect better quality TV viewing (if you choose a TV package) as well as superfast internet. However if you are unlucky and live in a hard-to-reach area then you may have to rely on dial up internet – this uses your phone line and by today’s standards is quite slow. Satellite internet, where your connection is via satellites rather than copper phone wires, is another alternative also.

Providers

Comcast - this is still America’s largest home internet service provider, serving 40 states and the District of Columbia. It also provides cable TV, so there’s an opportunity to package up your TV channels with your internet for a good price.

AT&T – these guys provide fiber optic, broadband and dial up. Their fiber optic offer is well-priced, starting at $30 per month currently.

Time Warner Cable – offers a range of cable internet price plans, starting at around $15 per month for a download speed of upto 2 Mbps.

CenturyLink – offering internet services in 36 states, it has speeds of 1 Gig (1,000 Mbps) in certain areas.

Verizon – FiOS is their fiber optic network, and there’s DSL plans available as an alternative. It claims to offer significantly faster upload speeds than cable.
