Why A PPO Insurance Plan Might Be Your Best Move For Healthcare Freedom

PPO (Preferred Provider Organisation), may be the answer if you want more flexibility when it comes to your healthcare, compared to some of the more restrictive options.
What is it?
Unlike an HMO, a PPO plan does not require you to choose a Primary Care Physician (PCP), and you don’t need a referral to see a health care provider. You will also have the option of choosing a provider from within the network offered by the plan, and this will likely be cheaper.
Benefits
You will therefore have more control over your healthcare and can, for example, continue to see a specialist of your choice, with whom you may have a long-standing relationship. At the same time you use choose the more cost effective route of using an approved provider, any time you like.
Disadvantages
Flexibility comes at a price, and PPO plans will have higher monthly premiums than HMO or POS plans. There will also be deductibles, so that you have to pay for part of your care first - and higher co-payments. You also won’t have someone coordinating your care as you would under an HMO, and some services may not be covered outside of the network.
Research
The key is to find a balance between a plan that you would like and a premium that you can afford. These plans can be very confusing, with different levels of deductibles, co-payments and restrictions. It’s therefore important to do your homework, compare several different plans look at the finer details, to ensure that you get a plan that meets your needs.
